Low-rise life

Posted on Apr 26th, 2007 by Itlandm : Conscientious Observer Itlandm
When I visualize the invisible, I see consensus reality as an island in the sea of the unknown. The ground, the stone and sand and dirt, is what we observe.  On this we build our thought constructions, our theories, our -isms and our -logies.

I'm OK with low-rise buildings of this sort, the theories that are built directly on observable reality, and perhaps some that are built upon such basic theories again.  But I am afraid of the heights of the ivory towers, where people build theories on theories, where each generation of philosopher or theologian has to spend more of their lives reading the tomes of their predecessors before they finally add something on top of that again.  I feel that if I were to get up there, I would lose sight of the ground and find myself alone in a dizzying void, balancing on an enormous stack of books.  I much prefer it down here, where I can feel the solid ground under my feet, or at least still see it clearly.
