Secrets of Get and Make

I notice that there is much talk about "the Secret" these days, in a superficial way that implies there is some kind of magic way to "attract" riches, health and other treasures external.

In a manner of speaking, this world has limited resources.  If you attract more of them, then there is less for others. Or do you think that you have the power to create material objects out of nothing, like a God?  If so, perhaps you should start exercising your God powers more gradually.  How about resurrecting the animals in the local meat shop?  Surely a god who can bring objects into being by the power of thought alone should have no problems resurrecting what is clearly recognizable as dead bodies.  No, I thought not.  It seems more likely that you really never worried about where your well-deserved riches should come from, much like a baby does not worry as long as it gets a teat in its mouth.  The sacrifice of others is natural for the "get" person.

I said resources were limited "in a manner of speaking".  The exception is that we can often create new resources or substitute one for another. For instance, imagine if all mail in the world was still written on paper and sent by cars and ships and planes.  Hey, it was so close to actually happening.  I can remember when ordinary people and businesses did not even have a fax, much less e-mail.  Imagine the vast tracts of forest that would have to be cut for paper if we should write that much mail.  Imagine the oil we would have to extract to fuel the planes.  But because some people made a change, we can send mail electronically, and the marginal cost of sending one missive is close to zero. So we do it much more, and yet cut much less trees.  This is possible because some people follow the path of "make" instead of "get".

Call it "intelligent design" if you want, but the Secret will always remain secret to the Get people; but revelations are given to those who Make.
