Stating the obvious

Today on the commute bus to work, I resumed reading the dialog between Andrew Cohen and Ken Wilber in WIE magazine. It amuses me that whenever Wilber says something, it is something I already know. Again and again. He is stating the obvious. However, in not a few cases, I never thought of it before. I didn't know that I knew it, although I recognized it on sight. This amuses me.
It takes a bit to tell me something obvious that I haven't thought about. I am famous (infamous?) for doing the same myself, making people think about the things they already know, realize that things are not given, that it could have been otherwise. That it is not really natural to eat with a fork or live in houses with right angles: It is a tradition we have taken over from our ancestors without thinking. Monogamy, nations, and a host of other "given" things are actually the habits of our ancestors. Mostly good habits, obviously, since we are having a grand time.
